EQ area deep dive
Self-Awareness
Noticing what you feel, when it starts, and what it is pointing to.
When this skill is strong
- You can name a feeling a few moments after it shows up, not hours later.
- You notice body cues (tight jaw, shallow breath, restless hands) before the feeling takes over.
- You can tell similar feelings apart, like disappointment and anger.
Signs it is asking for attention
- Feelings show up as a vague 'off' mood with no name.
- You only understand a reaction after the conversation is over.
- Your own responses regularly surprise you.
Practices to try this week
- Twice a day, stop for 20 seconds: name one feeling and one body cue.
- After any charged moment, write three lines: what I felt, what I wanted, what I did.
- Build a bigger feelings vocabulary. Swap 'stressed' for something more exact: rushed, cornered, overloaded, unsure.
