Self-Management
Steering strong emotions and getting your balance back.
When this skill is strong
- You can pause before you reply when you feel reactive.
- You get back to steady within a reasonable time after a setback.
- You have a few reliable habits that settle you.
Signs it is asking for attention
- Words come out under stress that you later wish you could take back.
- Once you are upset, it is hard to choose a helpful next step.
- You keep sabotaging goals you say you care about.
Practices to try this week
- Breathe in for 4 counts and out for 6, three times, before you reply when you are triggered.
- Choose one pause phrase, such as 'Give me a minute to think,' and use it this week.
- When you catch yourself undoing your own progress, name the pattern out loud and take one small step anyway.
